Mama Said There’d Be Days Like This

For a Thursday, this was going to be better than most because I had a kinda-call-back audition for a kicky-thriller movie. Not the lead…not yet. Not the co-star…around the block. But, I was going to read for two sweet, character spots. Chocolate-covered ingredient? It shoots in Puerto Rico.Whipped cream on the sundae? Timothy Olyphant stars in the film. So, I’m just sayin’…I wanna get it right.

There was no doubt in my mind that I needed to be cast in both of the roles. Although that might be a bit of a sell for the casting people (Anne McCarthy and Jay Scully), I was determined to plant the seed. I had already selected two scarves to kind of throw over my shoulders; one for each role. It gives a better illusion that there are two characters. I didn’t realize until I got to work at 8AM that…

img_0540_1.jpgThat’s right, two different shoes. No time to drive for an hour back to my apartment and no time to shop at lunch. So, as my son Bronson reminded me on the phone when I told him (through loud spasms of laughter), “If you can’t fix it…stand it!” (Wonder where he got that?)

So, at the audition, I lifted my jeans up enough to expose the tops of the black, leather, unmatched beauties. I couldn’t let them think that I didn’t know when they likely would know. I told them that they would probably say to each other when I left, ”The poor thing! And she seems so young to have Alzheimer’s”. We all roared. Jay said that it was even better than wearing two different socks; better for whom?!

Just getting into the bi-role thinking? Maybe somewhere in my sub-conscious. Anyway, my video is off to the director. They may hire me just for laughs.

  2. This is merely a testament to the madness of genius. You always just hang it all out there. What an inspiration.
